Best Stick Welding Helmets
The welding shade used for stick welding typically ranges from shade 10 to shade 14, with shade 12 to shade 14 being the most common. Stick welding produces a high amount of UV radiation and bright light, which can cause eye strain and damage if not adequately protected.
Stick welding is one of the most commonly used welding processes, and Welders Supply has plenty of helmets up for the job. The 3M, Jackson and Miller helmets highlighted here all come highly recommended, but there are plenty of other options, too.
For stick welding, you’re going to need a lens capable of darkening to shades #9 to #13. Auto-darkening helmets with variable shade technology are the ticket for better visibility while you work—and, at least in most cases, better quality work. Besides protecting your eyes, a quality helmet also protects against the inevitable slag splatter and other jobsite hazards.
Here’s something else to consider: a quality helmet is also a comfortable helmet. Most feature fully adjustable headbands so you can dial in just the right fit. You don’t want to be constantly pushing your hood up so you can see what you’re working on, do you? Of course not.
