Welding with Nickel Alloys
Nickel is one of the most commonly used filler metals, and for good reasons. Other than hardening, nickel does not change as it cools from its molten state, pre-heating/cooling is rarely required, and it can be used in a wide variety of applications. With its resistance to corrosion and to changes in temperature, nickel alloys have widespread use in welding.
Nickel can be welded in many ways. At its simplest, acetylene torches can be used to mold the metal into place. Stick welding can be done if the weld holding the metal together needs to be stronger then the metal pieces themselves. TIG and MIG welding can be used in any position so long as a 2% thoriated tungsten electrode is attached to the TIG torch and argon gas is used. For MIG welding, 50/50 argon/helium gas is used. Naturally, Welders Supply Company carries all the parts and accessories with nickel alloys.
