Hypertherm Powermax 45 Nozzle #220671
The Hypertherm Powermax 45 Nozzle #220671 from Welder Supply directs the stream of plasma for more precise cutting. When a plasma cutter nozzle and powered electrode touch metal, the spark heats the gas into plasma. The precisely engineered nozzle directs the arc of plasma to a specific diameter. The arc never actually touches the nozzle because the plasma gas provides a thin boundary layer of cool gas. This maintains separation.
- Problems occur when the current level is too high or low. In such cases, the arc can contact the cutting nozzle and cause a double arc.
- This damages the nozzle by increasing its diameter. Also, the nozzle could be gouged or the hole out of round.
- Damaged nozzles should be replaced or there can be a poorly focused arc, causing a bad cut finish.
- Gouges inside the nozzle are usually caused by the current being too strong or airflow too weak. Piercing or cutting too fast can also cause nozzle damage.
